SJMC: A Global Destination for Healthcare Excellence

Madam Tjhai Ten Len, 60 years old, noticed a growing fatigue while performing daily tasks such as bathing, gardening, and cooking. That was when her son-in-law, Hendra Liu, brought her to Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) where she was referred to Consultant Cardiothoracic Sugeon, Dr Kenny Cheng to undergo a heart bypass.

"Madam Tjhai came to me with a triple vessel coronary artery disease, where all three major blood vessels of the heart are blocked off. She required a heart bypass immediately to prevent a heart attack," Dr Kenny said, adding that the surgery was a success and Madam Tjhai is recovering well.

Madam Tjhai from Kalimantan, West Indonesia, is among thousands of medical tourists who sought treatment in Malaysia.

Dr Mohamed Ali Abu Bakar, CEO of Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC), shared that Malaysia is one of the top destinations for medical tourism as patients realise that hospitals in Malaysia have doctors who are skillfully competent with international expertise, whom they aren't able to find in their home countries.

As a finalist in the Flagship Hospital Programme 2021-2025 by MHTC, SJMC is dedicated to providing innovative healthcare solutions.

"At SJMC, we are building a healthcare ecosystem that leverages on technology, and we are looking at technology as the next leapfrog. We have seen much improvements to healthcare tourism with MHTC, who is promoting Malaysian healthcare to the international market. Today, our immigration offers a fast-track lane for international patients seeking medical treatment," said Bryan Lin, SJMC CEO.
