Mentor, Friend, Father, Teacher – SJMC’s Tribute to the Late Dato' Setia Dr Anuar Masduki


Dato' Setia Dr Anuar Masduki was one of the pioneering doctors who joined Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) when the hospital first opened its doors in 1985. Prior to him joining private practice, he was celebrated as the first cardiologist in Malaysia to conduct a Coronary Angiogram (1983) & Angioplasty (1984) alongside fellow colleagues.

With his expertise & excellent clinical skills, he mentored the then cardiology team in SJMC. He successfully performed the first Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA) in a private hospital setting at SJMC.

Dato’ Setia Dr Anuar Masduki was Malaysia’s most senior practicing interventional cardiologist. A trusted doctor, Dato’ Setia Dr Anuar Masduki attended to The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, and was respected by many.

Despite his accolades and achievements, Dato Setia Dr Anuar Masduki remained grounded in his work and family. Patients remember him as a caring doctor, whereas colleagues and staff at SJMC remember him as a friend and mentor who has helped them learn and grow in the course of their career.

Speaking to his son Dr Ainur Rahman, he described his late father as a man of integrity, compassion, and quiet strength.

“As a father, he instilled in us discipline and the drive to be our best. As a husband, he was loving and devoted, and as a grandfather, he doted on his only granddaughter, Sara, with endless affection. His humility and dedication to others shaped my own path as a doctor — to serve with both skill and heart.”

From the depths of our hearts, we want to thank Dato’ Setia Dr Anuar Masduki for his contributions to the medical field and he will always be fondly remembered by all of us.
