Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) has proudly served the community where it resides for close to 40 years. The hospital’s commitment lies in creating a positive impact on the community, both in achieving good clinical outcomes and contributing to healthcare sustainability. In recognition of its efforts, SJMC was conferred the ESG Program of the Year – Malaysia category award at the recent Healthcare Asia Awards 2024.

“We are honoured to receive this award. We believe that true healthcare excellence goes beyond treating patients within our walls. It's about fostering a healthy community around us. This validates our commitment to serving the needs of the people, and it motivates us to keep pushing the boundaries of what's possible for a healthier community,” said Bryan Lin, SJMC Chief Executive Officer.

Its most notable initiative in addressing healthcare disparities is the Global Surgery Initiative (GSI), the first-of-its-kind public-private partnership in Malaysia with the Malaysian Society of Anaesthesiologists, backed by the Ministry of Health Malaysia. This initiative bridged the gap for healthcare needs in local communities in Sarawak, where SJMC’s expert anaesthesiologists, surgeons, and nurses performed life-saving surgeries.

As a healthcare provider, SJMC has an important role to play to achieve a cervical cancer-free Malaysia and this means providing an opportunity for screening. The “If Not Now, When? #endcervicalcancer” campaign with ROSE Foundation and SJ Echo aligns to ESG values by prioritising women from underserved communities, providing them with DIY cervical cancer screening kits.

Recognising the importance of strong nursing support as a backbone to healthcare, it aims to encourage nursing as a career with the “Nurse Quest: A Journey into Healthcare!” workshop in collaboration with a media partner where secondary school students got a firsthand taste of what it's like to be a nurse in a hospital setting. The hospital rose to the occasion to address the need for more healthcare professionals in the country.

The panel of esteemed judges shared that SJMC exemplifies the values that define a socially responsible and forward-looking healthcare institution. These initiatives not only elevate the standards of healthcare provision but also serve as an inspiration for industry-wide positive change.

Healthcare Asia Awards recognises exceptional healthcare providers that have redefined the standards of healthcare through their unwavering dedication to innovation, setting of new industry benchmarks, and substantial contributions to their communities.
