In support of National Colorectal Awareness Month this March, Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) will be supporting the National Cancer Society of Malaysia’s Adult’s Home of Hope with a one-month's supply of essential nutritional supplement, which will benefit the home’s 25 cancer patients.

The contribution of 100 cans of Nutren Optimum milk powder valued at more than RM 7,700 is SJMC’s way of supporting cancer patients through their treatment journey. SJMC stands firmly committed to supporting the community in the fight against cancer. The hospital believes a successful journey requires comprehensive care, addressing not just medical needs, but also the emotional and well-being of patients and their families.

“Proper nutrition is crucial for cancer patients because their bodies need the nutrients in order to undergo the chemotherapy or radiotherapy that’s planned,” said Catherine Lee, SJMC Director of Cancer & Radiosurgery Centre. “We are committed to supporting NCSM's mission and this aligns with SJMC’s firm belief in people and community, both in achieving good clinical outcomes and contributing to the larger good of healthcare sustainability.

This collaboration between SJMC and NCSM highlights the importance of community partnerships in addressing the needs of cancer patients. By working together, patients will have greater access to the resources and support they need to fight cancer and improve their quality of life.

“Cancer patients often face unique nutritional challenges, making specialised supplements a vital part of their care. We're grateful that SJMC's contribution will help ease this burden for residents at the Adults' Home of Hope,” said Dato’ Dr Saunthari Somasundaram, NCSM President.

The Adults’ Home of Hope provides free accommodation to adult cancer patients and their caregivers who reside outside of Kuala Lumpur while they undergo cancer treatment at Hospital Kuala Lumpur.

For over 21 years, SJMC’s Cancer & Radiosurgery Centre has been a pillar in the fight against cancer. The centre offers a seamless patient experience through integrated care, combining advanced technology with a person-centred approach. Its commitment extends beyond medical expertise. In 2023, SJMC Oncology (Cancer) Services is certified by Australian Council of Healthcare Standards (ACHS) International as a Centre of Excellence, making it the first in Asia-Pacific.
