Subang Jaya, 11 October 2025 – Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) has extended its Pink October Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative into its fifth year, partnering with the State Assembly of Subang Jaya to sponsor 40 3D mammogram screenings worth RM15,880 for women in Subang Jaya, especially those from underserved communities, in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month and its 40th anniversary.

“I truly value SJMC’s ongoing commitment to advancing community wellbeing. This collaboration ensures that more women in Subang Jaya gain access to advanced 3D mammogram screenings, giving them a better chance at early diagnosis and timely treatment,” said Yang Berhormat Michelle Ng, Subang Jaya Assemblywoman. “In fact, in previous years, this initiative has yielded significant results among women in our community, and I am confident it will continue to make a meaningful difference.”

“Since its inception in 2021, this sponsorship has supported more than 150 women with over RM70,000 in assistance,” said Bryan Lin, Chief Executive Officer of Subang Jaya Medical Centre. “Over the past 40 years, SJMC has remained steadfast in giving back to the community. As we celebrate this milestone, we are proud to continue championing preventive care with the support of Subang Jaya State Assemblywoman, Yang Berhormat Michelle Ng, while empowering health through knowledge — a key pillar of our 40th anniversary campaign, ‘Transforming Care: 40 Years and Beyond’. This initiative inspires more women to take charge of their health with confidence and underscores our enduring commitment to expanding access to quality care for all.”

Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women in Malaysia, with 1 in 20 women at risk of developing the disease in their lifetime. Although overall breast cancer cases fell slightly by 1.4% compared to 2012–2016, more women are being diagnosed at late stages (65.1% of cases detected at Stage 3 or 4), making early detection through screening even more crucial.

3D mammograms offer a more comfortable experience while advancing breast cancer detection. It provides a clearer, more detailed view of breast tissue, enabling earlier and more accurate identification of abnormalities. This higher level of precision improves the chances of detecting breast cancer at its earliest and most treatable stages, leading to better outcomes for women.

Empowering Communities Through Wellness

The mock cheque was presented during SJMC’s Health & Wellness Carnival, themed “Timeless Together: A Day for All Generations”, held at PARC, Subang Jaya. Kristine Anne Williams, Head of Corporate Marketing & Healthcare Network Management at SJMC, presented the mock cheque to Tuan Ir. Balachandran Naicker, Councillor of Majlis Bandaraya Subang Jaya (MBSJ) (2008–2025) and Majlis Perwakilan Penduduk (MPP) Zone 1 Representative, who attended on behalf of Yang Berhormat Michelle Ng, Subang Jaya Assemblywoman.

The carnival brought together more than 250 attendees — families, young adults, and seniors — who enjoyed a day of fun activities, health awareness talks, interactive booths, and community engagement sessions, reflecting the hospital’s commitment to supporting healthier, more connected communities.

One of the beneficiaries, Madam Wong Choon Yen from SS18, shared her gratitude: “I had a breast check-up a long time ago but didn’t follow up after that. This sponsorship is very meaningful — it encourages women to go for screening. Without it, many might not take the step, just like me. I believe women should be kinder to themselves. Our bodies are our own, and we must take care of them.”

Another recipient, Madam Harjindar Kaur a/p Bakhtawar Singh from USJ6, added: “At this age, I believe we must take care of our own bodies. I’m now in the senior category – staying active, fit, and feeling good are so important. This sponsorship is a wonderful way of giving back to the community. I encourage women to speak up if they are not feeling well – talk to someone, don’t keep it to yourself.”

Beyond this, SJMC continues to extend its expertise to serve communities in need. Earlier this year, through the Global Surgery Initiative (GSI), SJMC doctors and nurses volunteered in Keningau, Sabah, where they collaborated with Hospital Keningau’s medical team to perform 14 life-changing surgeries over just two days. As part of its anniversary initiatives, the hospital has also partnered with Subang Jaya Community Ambulance and Lifesaver Ambulance Service to provide 80 complimentary ambulance rides for Subang Jaya residents from selected areas since August.

As an award-winning 442-bed multidisciplinary tertiary hospital, SJMC has been ranked among the top three hospitals in Malaysia by Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals 2025 and is recognised by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) International as a Centre of Excellence for its Oncology services, highlighting its commitment to person-centred, world-class care.
