Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC), an internationally accredited healthcare provider in Malaysia, is strategically enhancing its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts by promoting quality healthcare initiatives that aim to positively impact local communities.

Celebrating nearly four decades as a leading healthcare provider, SJMC is now turning its attention to Cambodia. The center aims to provide advanced medical treatments at affordable costs by leveraging its skilled doctors and sophisticated medical technologies.

In Cambodia, SJMC’s initial step involved collaborating with Phnom Penh-based GC Life Insurance PLC. This partnership focuses on implementing a CSR initiative in multiple provinces, where SJMC sponsored medical supplies for the insurance company.

Bryan Lin, CEO of SJMC, emphasized the importance telling Cambodia Investment Review. “At SJMC, our guiding principle is ‘People Caring for People.’ This philosophy anchors the heart of everything we do, from our services to our treatments. This also extends to our community efforts, where we aim to bridge healthcare accessibility and equity gaps through knowledge and services.”

Redefining CSR in Healthcare

SJMC’s CSR strategy underscores its long-term commitment to engage with local communities sustainably, building trust and compassion in areas where they operate.

The center is addressing health challenges by initiating community health activities like health talks, free consultations, and medical outreach in underserved areas. Additionally, SJMC focuses on promoting sustainable healthcare by collaborating with local hospitals and industry players for continuing medical education, enhancing access to quality healthcare.

Joanne Lee Ching Whey, SJMC’s Director of Business Development, Strategy, and Transformation, highlighted the center’s objectives in Cambodia. “We are honoured to be part of GC Life Insurance’s GC Sahakom RongRoeurng (GCSR) initiative, where we provide the necessary support in raising awareness about health via basic health checks and continuous medical education to the communities of Cambodia. By sharing our medical expertise, we can make a significant impact together for the people and enhance the healthcare offerings in Cambodia” she stated.

In their partnership with GC Life Insurance, SJMC serves as the main healthcare sponsor, contributing essential medical equipment for health checks and reaching communities across Cambodian provinces.

GC Life launched the GC Sahakom RongRoeurng mobile bus (GCSR) in September, a program aimed at engaging local communities to raise awareness about healthcare, financial literacy, and the importance of insurance.

Michael Tee, CEO of GC Life, explained the collaborative impact with SJMC. “Our partnership with Subang Jaya Medical Centre bolsters our efforts to enhance healthcare awareness in Cambodia. SJMC’s medical equipment sponsorship amplifies our ability to host health seminars and screenings, creating a mutually beneficial partnership and facilitating expertise exchange between Malaysia and Cambodia.”

The GCSR project receives full support from the Insurance Regulator of Cambodia and local authorities.

International Recognition for SJMC

SJMC has earned international acclaim, including the Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation since 2009. It is also one of the four (4) finalists in Malaysia’s Flagship Medical Tourism Hospital Program, reflecting its adherence to the highest patient safety standards and commitment to medical excellence, service excellence and clinical outcomes.

The hospital’s global outreach through CSR represents a growing trend among healthcare operators to build trust, establish productive community relationships, and promote Malaysia as a safe and trusted destination for healthcare.

Joanne Lee further elaborated on SJMC’s objectives. “This cross-border CSR partnership is about building trust and enhancing the offerings and services to the healthcare ecosystem in Cambodia. We aim to achieve this by introducing our medical services, collaborating with strategic local partners and hospitals, and facilitating knowledge exchanges via continuous medical education. Our goal is for the people of Cambodia to seek medical assistance when necessary and to know that affordable and quality healthcare is within reach.”
